Progress may finally breathe easy after putting on impressive performance after impressive performance on the Nigerian Idol Live Stage week after week. Tonight, the amazing musician was declared the winner of this season of Nigerian Idol, after garnering the majority of public votes in a week-long struggle against velvety-voiced runner-up Zadok.
Host IK made the announcement at the end of an electrifying Finale that featured talents such as Pheelz and Judges Simi, Obi Asika, and D’banj performing their hearts out in front of a live audience.
How it all went down:
As the audience grew silent, an envelope-wielding IK (who had also performed earlier) invited the two Finalists to his side on stage. As IK peered into the envelope containing the verified and audited results, the lights dimmed and hearts raced faster. Naturally, our favourite drew the announcement, sending our collective blood pressure through the roof.
Progress bowed his head, concentrated his gaze on the floor, and locked arms with Zadok, the tension apparent. Progress let out a disbelieving shout as soon as IK’s words left his mouth. Zadok congratulated him, and Progress’ family soon swarmed the platform in joy.
Congratulations to you, Progress! A victory well-deserved.
